For the second time, the German career network for LGBTIQ lawyers, ALICE, has published a list of successful German LGBTIQ lawyers, who are out in the workplace. In Germany, LGBTIQ lawyers often still find it difficult to come out of the closet and at the same time be professionally recognized and appreciated by colleagues and clients in a line of work that is still very conservative. ALICE’s “Show Your Face” campaign (German: Gesicht zeigen) aims to change this by showcasing more than 70 successful and out-of-the-closet LGBTIQ lawyers in order to encourage other LGBTIQ lawyers not to hide in the workplace.

We are very pleased that Andre Appel decided to be part of this list. As a lawyer and certified employment law specialist in the Berlin office of Ogletree Deakins, he advises and represents clients in all matters of employment and data protection law.

“Not having to hide in the workplace should be the rule in every workplace, but for many employees around the world it is not. I am pleased to be on the list because I fully support ALICE’s cause for more diversity in law firms and the legal work environment in general,” says Andre Appel when asked why he decided to join ALICE’s  “Show your face” campaign.
